- Students will receive 10 participation points per day. In order to receive all 10 points they must be present, on-task and active. I will deduct points if the student is off-task or out-of-control as these can be liability issues. If a student is absent from class they do not receive any points.
- No Dress Policy - If a student does not have their PE clothes to dress for PE, they will be given a No Dress. After the first no dress, students will lose 50 points for each no dress thereafter.

Why is my student losing participation points for excused absences??
Physical education is a participation class. Students must be present in class, active and on-task to earn those daily points. If they are not in class, regardless whether the absence is excused, they lose the points for that day. For example, if a student missed a day that the class ran, it’s not like the teacher could send the student home with a mile run and have them bring it back the next day. I tell my students that PE is like a job, if they do not show up, they don’t get paid.
Of course, students have the opportunity to make-up those missed points if the absence was excused. They could do some extra exercises in class or join another PE class during their study hall. It is the student’s responsibility to arrange for these points to be made up.
However, if a student misses less than a week of class over an entire semester, usually the effect on a grade is minimal. For example, if a student misses three days of class (*10 points per day X 3 =30 points) over the entire semester (50 points per week X 18 = 900 points) they would still be earning a 97% for participation points.
*Students in Block PE earn 15 points per day since it is a 90 minute class.
